‘Searching for Hector Thomson’, which I scripted and narrated for ABC producer Michelle Rayner, was broadcast as a documentary feature on ABC Radio National ‘Hindsight’ on 20 and 24 April 2014, and can be heard via this podcast link at any time.
The documentary in based on a chapter in the new edition of my book Anzac Memories. It’s about war’s lingering consequences, family secrets and healing histories, and how Repatriation files in the National Archives transform our understanding of the Great War and its impact.
I’ve also produced this 3 minute digital history which tells a parallel women’s history – click here for ‘Finding Nell Thomson’.
And you can read online this review of Anzac Memories by historian Joan Beaumont, in Australian Book Review Online at: https://www.australianbookreview.com.au/abr-online/current-issue/116-may-2014-no-361/1948-selling-the-anzacs
