Talking about family photos

Monash University’s Professor Alistair Thomson joins ABC Overnights to talk about how family photographs have changed throughout history, what we can and can’t learn from them, and why they are so important to us. They say a picture is worth a thousand words – so what do photos say about your family and its history? Taking a group shot of family members is a time-honoured ritual at many Australian homes. Each photo captures a unique combination of people, poses, objects, places and times. We tell stories about ourselves and our families through photos, and those stories both reveal and conceal much about our lives.
