Biography

annamaria-pagliaroMy current position is Senior Lecturer in Italian Studies at Monash University. At the end of 2004 I was seconded to the Prato Monash University Centre as Academic Director and returned to the Faculty of Arts in 2010 after a period of research leave. I have been involved in the Prato Centre since its establishment as a member of the first working party in 1998 and was responsible for negotiations with Italian authorities in providing the location. I continued my association with the Prato Centre as a member of its Advisory Group and established and taught several units.

Prior to joining Monash University in 1991 I taught at La Trobe University and the University of Melbourne.

I completed a Master of Arts and PhD at the University of Melbourne.

My research interest and supervision are in 19th and early 20th century Italian literature, literary theory, the history and theory of Theatre and gender studies.

I have published widely on the development of the 19th century novel, Italian Verismo to Modernism. I am part of the editorial board for the Melbourne-based journal Spunti e Ricerche and edited several volumes and I am a member of the advisory board of the journal the Annali della Fondazione Verga and of The Florence University Press.
