Research

Having recently published a monograph study on the late 19th century writer Federico De Roberto’s literary and journalistic writings and narrative strategies in his novels, I am now working on literary representations of the female character in his fiction and expanding the investigation to other late nineteenth century Italian writers, particularly Luigi Capuana.

My research focus is now on the Italian nineteenth century nation-building educational project and on the role played by literary representations of the female character in the formation of social and political individualities.

I am investigating representations of disease in late 19th in century Italian literature, as expressions of social and psychological malaise in the fin de siècle.
