  • Research Interests

    1. Models other than mainstream for quality journalism.  Non-profit investigative reporting centres in the United States have produced landmark, award-winning journalism in the past few years.  Today there are about 75 such centres and their work appears in quality traditional outlets such as The New York Times, NPR and PBS. The impact and sustainability of such centres may provide important lessons for the future of Australian journalism. But funding by philanthropic foundations and activist wealthy individuals also raises ethical and other issues, not yet adequately examined.

    2. Developing models for student journalism to be augmented in quality and published to a broader general audience. UniMuckraker is just one such idea.

    3. Exploring optimal pedagogies for reducing plagiarism.
