Hailan Paulsen

Hailan is the unit coordinator and lecturer in the translation & interpreting stream of Chinese studies.

Hailan is also a NAATI qualified professional interpreter and translator. She has particular strengths in innovative teaching, curriculum development and course design. Her main research interests cover translation and interpreting studies and translation and interpreting pedagogy, cross cultural communication, second language acquisition. Hailan uses multimedia-based platforms, and has developed the SmartClass+ Language Lab system for interpreting teaching.

Hailan completed her BEd in China, PGDipEdStud and MEd in Australia, and has a strong academic background in education. After working at both RMIT and Monash Universities for 12 years, she took up a continuing position at Monash in 2012, and has taught a wide range of units at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including Chinese language, Chinese Translation for Professional Purposes and the following NAATI approved courses: Theory and Practice of Interpreting; Intermediate Interpreting; Practice, Ethics and Professional Aspects; and Contextual Studies for Interpreters.
