WILPF International: Women’s Power to Stop War Webinar

Earlier this week, Professor Jacqui True presented a webinar, ‘Political Economy of Violence Against Women’, as part of the Women’s International League of Peace and Freedom (WILPF) Women’s Power to Stop War webinar series.

Violence against women is a major problem in all countries, affecting women in every socioeconomic group and at every life stage. Yet, when women have access to productive resources and they enjoy social and economic rights, they are less vulnerable to violence across all societies.

In the webinar, Professor True outlines a feminist political economy approach that helps us to identify the linkages between sexual and gender-based violence against women, gender inequalities and the global/regional structural processes that exacerbate violence and conflict. She also shows that these structures are modifiable and policy changes could be devised to significantly reduce incidence of SGBV in both ‘peaceful’ and conflict-affected societies.
