Joel teaches and/or supervises at the honours and postgraduate levels (both coursework and research). Joel’s publications explore either Australian classical music or Romanian classical music. The latter area is divided between either analytical investigations of new compositions or the impact of communism on that nation’s music. His higher degree supervision extends to the Cold War and socialist realism in European music; while performance research continues to be a significant part of his postgraduate supervision.
