Research Interests

I am a historian of the nineteenth-century United States. My first project, Red Meat Republic, is a history of the American ranching and meatpacking industries. I am also developing an environmental/political history of the Homestead Act. I teach several American history surveys as well as American Empire, a survey of America in the world. My research interests include animal history, environmental history, business history, and economic history.
