Since 2009, Dr Leah Gerber has worked as a Lecturer in Translation & Interpreting Studies at Monash University. Leah’s research focuses predominantly on the translation of Australian children’s literature into German.
Leah’s monograph Tracing a Tradition: The Translation of Australian Children’s Fiction Into German from 1945 (Röhrig Universitätsverlag, 2014) explores the very different strategies adopted by German translators of Australian children’s literature over a fifty-year period. It takes a textual corpus of twelve Australian children’s novels translated into German, published in the period between 1945 and 2007.
Together with Prof. Rita Wilson, Leah has published the edited volume Creative Constraints Translation and Authorship, which explores the relationship between the creative freedom enjoyed by the translator and the multiplicity of constraints to which translation is necessarily subject.
