Liz Rushen works with Professor Jenny Hocking in the National Centre for Australian Studies as a Senior Research Associate on an ARC Discovery Grant (2014-2017) From Sarah Wills Howe to Thomas Wentworth Wills: An Australian Family Biography. Liz is also a Research Associate in the School of Philosophical, Historical and International Studies, Faculty of Arts.

Liz Rushen’s PhD was awarded by Monash University in 1999 and has since been published as Single & Free: female Migration to Australia 1833-1837, Australian Scholarly Publishing, Melbourne (2003), second edition Anchor Books Australia, Sydney (2010). Liz has written several other books on the migration of single women to Australia and is currently researching shipping agents involved in nineteenth century migration.

Chair of the History Council of Victoria, Liz is the former Executive Director of the Royal Historical Society of Victoria and is a member of the Professional Historians’ Association. Liz regularly speaks to professional and community groups and in 2004 co-hosted a weekly history segment on Melbourne radio ABC 774.
