Articles: Recognition for The Second International Symposium on the Malay Musical Arts of Indonesia’s Riau Islands (SIRI) 2015

DSC_0063 3Two articles have recently been published documenting the success of the Second International Symposium on the Malay Musical Arts of Indonesia’s Riau Islands, by Indonesian-Australian community magazine OZIP and Monash News.  The Ozip article is the second one to report on the Symposium, and can be found in the magazine’s February 2015 edition, or viewed here.  The Monash News article is available online here.

The Second International Symposium on the Malay Musical Arts of Indonesia’s Riau Islands was hosted at Monash University from Wednesday 14th to Friday 16th January, 2015.  Attracting speakers, researchers and artists from four continents, the Symposium explored the relationships between music, dance, theatre, political hierarchies, the emotions, the senses and traditionally acceptable behaviour in the Riau Islands.  The Symposium was convened by Professor Margaret Kartomi and launched by the Chancellor Dr Alan Finkel AO PhD FTSE FIEAust.  It included a special Exhibition of Indonesia’s Malay Arts, which was officially opened at a reception by the Consul-General of Indonesia, Ibu Dewi Savitri Wahab, on Wednesday 14th January.   For more about the Symposium, visit the homepage here.
