POSTSECRET POSTCARDS – ATS1369

With acknowledgements to PostSecret.

In the first week of tutorials students in some tutorials for ATS1369 were asked to make a postcard (anonymous) for the ‘PostSecret @ DoTS’ project. Students were asked to chose from one of two topics:

• what I am most excited about now that I’m at university

• what freaks me out the most now that I’m at university

Some chose to create two postcards and answer both.

In 2012, Rebecca completed her PhD, titled ‘East Timor’s Pursuit of Democratic Independence’. This thesis covered topics such as democratisation, self-determination and national identity, and examined both the international and domestic contexts in East Timor’s transition to democratic statehood. Rebecca’s research also examines the nature of sovereignty, justice and political and cultural identities. She is interested in how these political features impact on states, order and the international political environment.

Current research project

Rebecca is currently working on several journal articles examining the construction of East Timorese national identity, and is preparing to publish an article on the evolution of East Timor’s national security program since 2002.
