Russell Goodwin is a composer based in Melbourne. He studied composition at La Trobe University (1997-1999) where he completed a Bachelor of Music, and at Monash University (2000) where he completed a Bachelor of Music(Honours). Between 2001 and 2002, He completed a Master of Arts where he compared the music of John Cage with avant-garde theatre of the early twentieth Century.
In 2007, Russell completed a Ph.D. in music composition at Monash University. His research outlined a systematic approach to understanding compositional Indeterminacy.
Russell’s compositional interests span instrumental and electronic music and he has composed music for ensemble performance, short film, theatre and installations. More recently, Russell has turned his attention back to ensemble performance where his works aim to draw attention to the process between composition and performance.
