Dr Vicki Ware

  • Vicki-Ann’s current research interests span music, international development, heritage studies and policy studies. They include the role and benefits of the arts in international and community development; how music contributes to the formation and maintenance of cultural identity; the music of Myanmar and Thailand; interactions between development and religion in developing nations; and the nature of evidence used in policy making.

Her doctoral research, concluded in 2006, explored the maintenance of music-cultural identity in Bangkok, in the context of rapid culture change and modernisation.

Since completing her doctorate, Vicki has worked in public service roles across all three levels of government in Australia, including positions in both policy development and policy research. She has also worked for an independent policy research agency.

    Her current projects include:
    • The piloting of a range of arts-based approaches to peacebuilding, trauma recovery, and cultural identity maintenance (action research).
    • A systematic literature review of the research into the arts in international development.
    • The impact of religion on faith-based NGOs in developing nations.
    • Development in fragile contexts.
